8 Tips to Reduce Stress and Make Your Life Happier

Sometimes, you can feel stressed or depressed. Things can go wrong and do not run as expected. Although there may be other causes for this type of situation, I think that one of the main reasons for it to occur is non-realistic expectations.

They can come from ourselves or others and can mess-up your mind. When we are successful, we feel very happy and excited. On the other hand, we feel very disappointed. So, our mental condition goes up and down (see photo ‘The Scream’).

We need to avoid that. Here are some tips on how to do it, so you can reduce stress and be happier in life:

1. Focus on the actions and not on the results.

Concentrating on the results is a way to experience the emotional ups and downs, since you cannot control them (the results). Then you should focus on something that you can control and it is, certainly, your actions.

Instead of worrying about results, spend your time thinking about what to do and how to do it. The role of the results is to give you feedback to refine your actions but no more than that. After getting feedback to refine your actions, focus on the actions.

2. Enjoy yourself! Do not take things too seriously.

We always take things too seriously to the point of being obsessed with them. Do not do that. Instead, do things you have fun with. Having fun, you will surely be less stressed and your day will be more pleasant. One way to do this is to see things as games; something that is fun to do despite some gains and losses. Another way to do that is seeking pleasures hidden in everything we do (compare the photos ‘The Scream’ and ‘The Penguin - Ice Scream’).

3. Do not compare yourself with others.

A study showed that we care more about how much money we have compared to others than on how much we actually have. This shows our tendency to compare ourselves to others.

But, similar to the first case, you should listen to others just to get feedback on how to make things better. Moreover, comparing yourself to others will cause two things:

Let yourself down if you are worse than them.

Drive your ego if you are better than them. But this will only make the next failure more painful.

So, learn something from the others, set your goals and refine your actions.

4. Focus on being what you love, instead of trying to be loved.

One reason why we feel stressed is that we are very worried about what others say about us. We are so busy trying to meet the other’s expectations that we start living someone else’s life. Do not concentrate on being loved; life is too short to be spent living someone else’s life. Instead, focus on being what you love. Cultivate your passions and do what really matters to you.

5. Cultivate an abundant mentality.

A little mind tells you that there are very few resources available. That makes you see the success of others as a loss to you. Having this mentality will make you more stressed, especially when your pairs become more successful than you. So cultivate an abundant mentality. Learn that there are sufficient resources for all and that the victory of the other does not mean your failure.

6. Become a friend of the failure.

Failure is normal in the life of a successful person. Indeed, it is a good friend of the people. I love this quote by Thomas J. Watson:

“Would you like me to give you a formula for success? It's quite simple, really. Double your rate of failure. You are thinking of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn't as all. You can be discouraged by failure - or you can learn from it. So go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because, remember, that's where you will find success”.

The more you fail, the more likely that you will be successful. Make the failure your friend and it will be much easier for you to go through things. See things as games (remember the item 2?) is a way to become comfortable with failure.

7. Look back, not just forward.

See how far we are from our goals can make us down, in particular if our mind is always thinking about them. Therefore, it is necessary that you also look back and see how much you have walked. What achievements you have reached? What are your success stories? Recalling all that will make you feel very grateful for your current situation in life.

8. Cultivate your enthusiasm.

Enthusiasm makes you excited about life. It leaves you excited about where you are now, no matter how difficult the situation may seem. It gives you energy to do your best always.

Indeed, the ability to maintain the enthusiasm despite failures and difficulties is an essential feature of the people of success. As Winston Churchill used to say, success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.

Increasing Your Mental Capacity: 31 Infallible Tips

If you want to climb in life, increase your mental capacity is a must. Doing so, you will be able to handle more things and assume greater responsibilities.

It is exactly as your physical ability to lift heavy weight. People with greater physical capacity will be able to lift more weight with less effort, while those with less capacity will strive much or even will not be able to raise anything. Then, as you must exercise your muscles to increase their physical capacity, you should also exercise your "mental muscles" to increase their mental capacity.

But how should you do it? I think the answer is similar to the way you increase your physical capacity at the academy.

At the academy, you must raise a weight a bit higher than your capacity. If your current capacity is 100 kilos for example, you must increase the load to 110Kg. Even though it may be a little difficult at the beginning, you will find it easy after a few days or weeks of training. Then you can add a little more weight, and by doing it again and again, after 1 or 2 years you will see your physical capacity increase significantly.

The way to increase your mental capacity is similar: By doing things that are out of your comfort zone.

This, I believe, is the best thing you can do. This creates some inconvenience in your life but only in a bearable way. As a result, your mind will grow stronger and will increase your mental capacity.

To help you put it in practice, here are 30 ways of doing things that are a little out of your comfort zone and increase your mental capacity:

· When someone invites you to do something, make a habit to answer "yes" (but do not forget to say "no" when appropriate).

· In a meeting (class, conferences etc.) sit next to someone that you do not know.

· Visit a place that you would not go normally (museums, monuments, national park etc.).

· Eat at a new location.

· Try a new type of food.

· Go to a conference or seminar about a topic that you are not familiar with.

· Call an old friend you have not seen for a long time.

· Initiate an intelligent conversation with someone you do not know.

· Find the most unpleasant task in your list of to-do things and do it first.

· Send a message to someone you do not know, to start a friendship.

· Enter a new course in a subject that interests you (computers science, engineering, administration and so on). The harder the course, the more you’ll be forced to think, the greater will become your ability to solve problems.

· Learn a new hobby.

· Learn a foreign language.

· Join a new club and interact with people there.

· Practice an art that you would not normally do (painting, music etc.).

· Learn to play a new musical instrument.

· Be shameless. This is the way to become familiar with rejection.

· Read fiction if you normally read non-fiction and vice versa.

· Read a new author.

· Read an old book.

· Visit a new genre of blog.

· Find friends in a new country (eg, a country from which you have not had any friend before).

· Find friends from different professions.

· Be a volunteer for activities of your social group or business.

· Buy your things in a different store.

· Take a different route to work.

· Visit an art festival.

· Listen to a new genre of music.

· In a bookstore or library, find books in a section that you normally do not look.

· Watch a new genre of film.

· Read more stories than news.

How to Increase Creativity

Creativity begins when a person is able to view or imagine something that she has not yet done. Everyone may to create whatever he wants with his imagination. However, to increase it we need understanding, a method that directs your thoughts and imagination. Let's see some practical tips to increase your creativity to astronomical levels!

To increase creativity, first think of something that you have never did before, for example, a simple duck. Take into account the details that you could change in it. Let's say that it will be blue and will become liquid. It will be effective if you are able to imagine the duck and retain it in memory.

Let’s continue imagining changes to it. First imagine its ordinary physical structure and then imagine it as made out of water. Try your imagination, using the questions: Who? How? When? Any question is useful for developing the "duck to water." See how funny it is. You will realize that the duck spills on the ground and is invisible in the water. After that, you may return to the original path to develop further.

Amplified all the details in creativity, turn it into a story, a community or something related. You will realize that you have an arsenal of creativity! How about a story like this: A duck of water that vaporizes when it is very hot. It is a legendary animal that belongs to an extraterrestrial magician that found it in the green mountains.

Tips

It seems crazy to create these stories at the beginning but it will be much easier and much more fun with time! Practice it always not caring about how strange your ideas may seem, like a child who does not have limits to his imagination.
